Obituary for Paul P. Caron

Dateline – Clifton Park, NY
Paul Phillip Caron, age 70, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Monday, January 30, 2017. Paul will be sorely missed.
Born on December 3, 1946 in Salem, MA, he was the son of the late Adrien (“Pete”) and Helen (Powers) Caron. Paul was a graduate of Salem High School in Salem MA, and went on to SUNY Oswego where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Speech and Theater. Higher education was important to him and he went on to pursue a Masters of Science degree in Speech Communication from SUNY Cortland. He was very proud to have earned is Doctor of Arts Degree in Community College Education from George Mason University later in life.
Paul’s passion in life was his family. Paul was a devoted, loving, kind, caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend and coach to many. He adored his wife Ann, his sons Matt and Adrian, and his loving brother Michael. He loved his grandchildren Madeleine and Ethan and with Adrian loved to tell funny, silly stories. He loved his weekend chats with Matt and Michael and always enjoyed a good laugh. They were all the light of his life and will continue to be as he looks down upon us.
Paul’s other passion in life was his dedication to serving youth and learners of all ages. He was a life long professor, teacher and coach. He spent his days positively affecting people and always making people smile. Paul worked tirelessly to further student athletes at all age levels. He was inspired by his father “Pete” who was larger than life in sports in Salem MA and had Paul, his late brother Peter and his brother Michael growing up on the ponds skating, playing hockey near Forest River Park. These were joyous days for Paul and his family. He spoke fondly of his father’s life lessons, Forest River Park and being near the water. He cherished his times as a kid playing in the playground or on the slides, swim in the bay or play on the baseball field that his father built. And, he would always stop by for a candy treat at his Mum and Pop’s 5 and dime corner candy store. Life was simple and good, growing up in Salem, MA and Forest River Park.
Through the years Paul dedicated himself to being a hockey player, coach, referee and even reached the highest levels of being an NHL Scout for the Quebec Nordiques (now the Colorado Avalanche), something he was very proud of. He also was pleased to have refereed many high level games including one in particular with the US Naval Academy. He passed on his hockey skills to son Matt who a successful hockey career at SUNY Oswego and also as a coach in the Syracuse area. Paul was very proud of Matt’s accomplishments.
As much as he loved his time in hockey, in his later years he turned his attention to serving as a baseball coach and FL Northeast scout, and sharing life lessons about baseball to son Adrian and many boys in the local area. He loved his time on the field, smelling the green grass, playing ball and having fun. He taught the boys good baseball, about trying your best, being a good sport, having fun in the process and getting better with each game. He and his extended baseball family had just spent a wonderful time at Disney/ESPN Wide World of Sports with our friends in Orlando at a baseball tournament over the New Year’s Eve holiday. It was a wonderful experience and he came back excited, looking forward to baseball’s spring season.
